1. What are Library operating hours?

The library operating hours are updating below:

Opening hours in June:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:45 am – 9:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed (except for working Saturdays)
  • The 24/7 learning space will always remain open.

Opening hours from July to August:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:45 am – 5:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed (except for working Saturdays)
  • The 24/7 learning space will always remain open.
  • Additionally, please be aware of the following adjustments:

  Please note:

  • During July and August, the library will be partially open, with only the second floor accessible. The first floor will be closed.
  • The circulation desk will not be operational, but information services will still be available upon request.

3. Where can I find the rules, regulations, and procedures for borrowing/returning books at the library?

4. Do I have to pay to borrow books from the library?

No, you do not. You can borrow books from library for free.

5. How can I borrow library books to take home?

You can use the self – check machine on either the 1st floor or the 2nd floor to borrow or return print books. The 24/7 book return machine at the library main entrance is just for checking in books only.

6. How many books can I borrow each time and for how long?

The circulation privilege of library as in the table below:

7. What is the penalty for returning books late?

The library charges an overdue fine for late payment of the borrowed items from the due date or the expiration of the recall to the actual date of return and the date of notification of lost items from patrons. In addition, overdue fines always apply including holidays, vacations, and days off.

Fines are collected at the time incurred.

  • Normal material: 20,000 VND/ day overdue/ document.
  • Course-specific material: 20,000 VND/ hour overdue/ document.
  • Equipment: 20,000 VND/ hour overdue/ equipment.

* Note:

+ Failure to make a payment on time does not excuse patrons from the responsibility of returning or renewing items.

+ Patrons must pay both an overdue fine and an additional fee equivalent to the cover price of borrowed items if they have not been returned 30 days after the due date.

8. What should I do if I lose or damage a library book?

  • Lost or damaged items should be reported to the library in a timely manner.
  • Patrons will be charged fines for overdue materials/equipment or material/equipment repair and replacement fees. These fines and fees are regulated in VinUni’s Financial Regulations and Tariff.
  • Fees for repair or replacement based on the conditions of library items as follows:

• Book covers: Markings on the inside or outside, or portions ripped off, etc.

• Book pages: Markings on less than 10 pages, medium creases, tears, stains, or liquid damage, etc.

• Equipment: To be determined by IT/Operation department.

Major damage or loss

• Book cover is damaged or missing.

• Pages are stained, missing, illegible or warped.

• Book is written upon or marked throughout.

• Other conditions that render the book unusable, such as a strong odor.

• An audio-visual item is rendered unable to be read by devices.

• Equipment is seriously broken and unrepairable.

• Books/equipment/CD-DVDs are reported lost.

9. What should I do if I discover that a borrowed document is torn, missing pages, or marked?

If you discover that a borrowed document is torn, missing pages, or marked, you must immediately report it to the library staff to avoid being held responsible for the missing pages. Provide them with specific details about the damage, such as the extent of tearing, the number of missing pages, or the nature of the markings. In your case, you may be subject to compensation as stipulated.

10. Where can I see the return date or overdue book return date?

To view information about borrowing books, due dates, or overdue status, you can visit the website Library – VinUniversity and select the ” My Library Account” section. Your login credentials will be your VinUni account.

11. After returning the book to the library, why do I still see it listed as overdue in my account?

  • First, please be sure that you returned the books at self-check machines or 24/7-return-station in library before bringing the books to the bookshelves.
  • Second, you need to check your email to see if  there is any confirmation email from library about your return action.
  • Finally, please contact library staff directly at the Information Desk.

  • Start your search at the VinUni library homepage at Library – VinUniversity
  • Log in with your valid VinUni account (more log in tips can be found HERE )
  • Enter your keywords into the search box then select library catalog (default search is ‘Everything’).
  • You can also search with keyworks and then apply a filter to your results. Filters are shown to the left of your search results.

13. How to renew a borrowed print book?

14. Can I photocopy documents in the library? What should I do if I need to photocopy documents?

  • Yes, you can. The library provides photocopy and document scanning services. Readers are allowed to photocopy and scan articles, book pages, theses, dissertations, projects, scientific research topics, and conference materials.
  • You just follow the guidance next to the photocopying counters at the 1st floor of the library.
  • Please be aware of the CopyRight Law before copying a library book!

15. Can I borrow someone else’s library card to access the library?

  • No, you cannot. Sharing your VinUni library ID or library card with others is strictly prohibited.

16. How are books arranged on the shelves?

  • VinUni Library uses the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system to classify and arrange books on the shelves. According to this system, the call number starts with letters representing the subject of the book, followed by numbers indicating the specific content of the book.
  • This call number is printed and attached to the spine of the book along the vertical column and is used to arrange books on the shelves.
  • Books are arranged on the shelves based on their call numbers, in left-to-right and top-to-bottom order.
  • The top of each shelf provides an indication of the range of call numbers and the subject group of books placed on that shelf.

18. What should I do if  I cannot find the printed book on the shelves even its status is available on the result?

  • Please contact directly to librarian at Circulation desk to support you.

19. I borrowed the book through the self-check machine, but the alarm sound still rang loudly from RFID gate, what should I do?

Please bring the book to Circulation desk at the 1st floor, library staff will support you.

20. What should I do if I can’t print?

First, please be sure that you follow all the steps in the guidance.

Then, please check the error message displaying on the printer to address the issue:

  • HELP/SPOOLING error -> Check if the printer tray is securely closed, and make sure the formatting is correct, for example, Tray 1, A4 paper, etc.
  • Unable to access the computer for printing -> Log in to the student Wi-Fi network and sign in to your Outlook email account.
  • Paper jam error: Open all paper trays of the printer to deal with any jammed paper, then close the paper tray.

21. The scanner is not working, what should I do?

First, please be sure that you follow the instruction

22. Can I borrow library’s equipment  for the long-time event outside of the library building?

  • No, you cannot. The library’s equipment can be used within 1 working day in the library only.
  • Exception: for some external events, you need confirmation from the event sponsor. Please inform your event sponsor to contact the library manager through email (library@vinuni.edu,vn) for approval.
